General Flashlight Discussion / Re: Old modded Maglite repair

Thank you for replying. I don't think the time or money would be well spent. I will hopefully be able to figure out which bulb I need and just use it as an incandescent light.  It is still wicked bright.

Battery discussion / Re: Shift from 18650 to 21700
« Last post by JohnnyMac on June 17, 2020, 10:56:43 PM »
To me the 21700 are brilliant. With the new super high output pocket monsters available, the 21700 offer the capacity of a 26650 with just the slightest increase in size over the 18650. Compared to 18650 the 21700 offer greater capacity, higher output in amps (40A or more compared to 20-30A at best, and less voltage sag. Everything Macka17 lists as a negative I only see as a positive. I have a lot of 26650 lights and I edc none of them because they are too fat to fit comfortably in my pant pocket.

My S2+ is a regular edc choice for me but I want an S21 in a bad way because it is only slightly thicker and  at least 50% more capacity than the 18650 in my S2+. I say get used to the 21700 because itís likely here to stay and for very good reason.

Components Reviews / Re: Got some new drivers and beefed up switches
« Last post by JohnnyMac on June 17, 2020, 10:45:50 PM »
No worries about recommending quality suppliers here. Mtnelectronics is my go to for components. His drivers are the best around and considering the top quality components he uses and the great prices, youíd be stupid not to buy from them.

I have an S2+ sst40 but with the stock 4mode driver with 4A output. Iíve been considering upgrading to Richardís FET+1 driver like you did. How big an increase did you see over stock?  The Bistro firmware on yours is one of my favorites. Does everything I could want and more. Great light you put together!

That is a pretty impressive build there but Iím at a loss as to what you can do with it without scrapping the whole design. Bulb holder and all looks built in to the battery holder and Iím clue,DSS how you could modify it with an led driver and modern led. 5ats a head scratcher right there. If I were you Iíd leave that one of a kind as is and get a new mag to mod or explore the option of getting a new, modern light that already has what you want.

General Flashlight Discussion / Re: driver for XHP 70.2

Where are you located? In the states I highly recommend you check out mtnelectronics.com. They have drivers for about any build you could want and Richard only uses the best components. His drivers are outstanding and his service is even better.

Flashlight Collections / Re: Share my flashlight collection.

Damn, son! Thatís a hell of a collection! You have some serious stuff there. I love that you have some skylumens lights that are beaters. You really need to get some Emisar/Noctigon lights. The D4v2 will make you forget all about the FW3A and other small flooders. The KR1 and KR4 are crazy as well. I have a KR1 enroute and should have it next week. Best pocket thrower out right now. Truly amazing lights and Vihn thinks that Emisar has the best build quality and attention to detail so that is something you should appreciate as well.

Flashlight Reviews / Re: Imalent MS03

The MS03 is an insane light. 13000 lumens from that little light is amazing. Heat management has to be tough on such a small host. Iíd expect it to not run long at highest output but thatís not the point of it is it. Itís about the ďwow!Ē factor and that light has lots of it. Please post pics of the light and some beam shots as well. Iíd love to hear your impressions of it.  8)

I think the Lumintop tool would be a great choice. Many love it but Iím not thrilled by it personally. I tried one recently and promptly returned it due to the ghastly green tint of the led.

Iíd recommend any of the Thrunite AA lights available. Available in NW tint which looks fantastic to the eye and fantastic reliability. Here is a link to their choices:  https://www.thrunite.com/aa-flashlight/

Hard to recommend a good 16340 light as there are so many good offerings available. Perhaps you should tell us what your budget is and what type of light you like.  Flood, throw, as small as possible, usb rechargeable?  The new Maratac copper 16340 comes to mind first. Iím not up on lights with that cell as I prefer lights that use larger cells with more capacity.

I hear good things about the Wowtac lights but donít have any yet. Being the ďbargainĒ brand of Thrunite itís no surprise they are good.
