Maglite 2019 what say you?
« on: January 26, 2019, 11:48:45 PM »
Ok, the days of building a Maglite as bright as a beacon light are gone. Pre-made LED lights nearly capable of being seen from the space station are available and cheap. A site where the old school flashlight builder could chat without SureFire drama has settled into pre-made lighting tools.

So is Maglite still on anybody's radar?

I use them for times when I need uber runtime. A 3D ML300 on 'eco' for example lights my 3 foot circle plenty when tailstood and touts hundreds of hours. And the latest Solitaire can compete with even the lie-ing-est triple A that says it can put out X number of lumens for 33 seconds before settling down to a realistic output.

And the triple A minimag is pretty dawg gone bright in my view.

So while lumen wars are on holiday due to stale battery tech and CREE has discovered neutral is a good thing, Maglite quietly goes about putting lights in the hands of a lot less people than at one time, but they still make pretty good flashlights for day to day uses.

Doesn't look like this place gets very much activity, I'm trying to find a good flash light forum.

Registered just to say I exclusively use maglites and always have. Recently bought a 332 lumen AA mini mag and cant find a thing about it online; its not even listed on maglites website.

As with anything, people take things to the n'th degree. Im a pretty simple guy and a good $20 LED maglite lights the way just fine.

Welcome to the forum Jeepster !

I still have some old incandescent Mags.  The beam pattern leaves much to be desired. The AAAs have the Westinghouse circle bar W on them.  The 3D cell is still in service, with an LED upgrade, but it is so heavy no one uses it & again the beam pattern...

I'm always going to pay attention to what's Maglite putting out for nostalgia's sake, if nothing else. A brand like that can always come back.

The 332 minimag seems to be a mystery. Is it really there? Well enough folks say they have one to warrant them being real.

My favorite online source for Maglite products has the 272 lumen pro but no 332's (yet).
