TFF Custom 14500 Light Giveaway. Rule change in OP.

This giveaway is open to all TFF members that have signed up before this thread was started. It will close sometime in the future. l will announce the date a few days before it closes. Winner will be selected by random.org. Rules can be changed at any time by me.

Its simple, like me, to enter. Just post here in this thread anything you like. A picture, joke or whatever takes your fancy. You can post as many times as you like but only your first post will count for the contest.


This giveaway was first floated along time ago and I'm sure spas had given up on me. I cant say l blame him. Machining started about eight months ago and finished this weekend.


The first picture is a shot of all the components less an errant o'ring.



The tailcap holds a reverse switch.



The reflector is 20.5mm in diameter which is protected by whats supposed to be an AR lens. Led is an XPG-2 3C on a copper star driven by a two mode 7135 2.2 amp driver. This will need an IMR 14500 battery for best results. 2.2 amps was chosen more for a practical point rather than having a thirty second hot rod flashlight if it was running 3 + amps. Bezel is 100% brass and was a real bugger to knurl.



Yes it even works right at this point in time. 



Head and tailstands are no problem.



A shot to give you an idea of the size, its not a small light by some AA standards, and to show it really is a handy light.



And finally after a long photoshoot between rain clouds it was time for a nap.

Very sweat light, is this one also made out of a piece of bike handlebar?
Man I need a lathe, not that I could do that, I just want to be able to eventually make my own light-every single part from scratch, that's must make you feel accomplished. Congrats on both of those beauties.

Would you be willing to supplement a OSHPark Direct Driver (custom made for TFF of course) with multiple modes vs just 2 modes?
What is the diameter of the driver?  17mm?  I currently have a 15mm upsized to 17mm that might fit the bill if interested

Come to think of it...I think I see a way to make the + pad a via...and be able to make the C1 connected between BAT+ and - with minimal effort...hmm

Thats a very generous offer WH. The driver is 17mm but unfortunately I would be incapable of putting this together myself. But if your offering?
Edit. Would not direct drive be to much for a 14500 battery? HKJ's testing only goes to 3 amps on the AW and Efest batteries. Maybe on a light with a larger battery would be more practical.

DD is no problem for the Efest's. The only sanyo's I have are protected and they trip at 4A but the little 2502 based FET drivers can't trip them, only ever seen them trip on my tester.



I vote for the Sk68 driver sized up, that way it's regulated.

An AW IMR14500 or MBI Nuke in IMR14500 might give best results, both are more capable than the Efest V2.

On these smaller FET's the current is somewhat lower than the really big ones...plus the beauty of the build is the firmware, can have the "wide open" (turbo) step back to a lower current level at whatever time frame you want, thus heavily reducing the current flow (thru PWM) to the emitter

would be able to give 5 levels if you wanted with a really nice moonlight mode for very long run times
